Senator Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan |
Reports from Taraba State say Jumai, the first female governorship candidate from the entire northern part of the country, won yesterday’s election. She ran on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan was elected Senator for the Taraba North constituency of Taraba State in the April 2011 Federal elections. She ran on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform but later defected to APC.
Though INEC is yet to officially announce her winner, Nigerians are already celebrating Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan’s feat on social media.
Among the celebrants is Prof. Pius Adesanmi, who wrote this morning on his Facebook wall: “The best news out of the 2015 cycle of elections. I am delighted that this news comes out of Taraba – a state that has epitomized the Nigerian tragedy in the last two years. I can’t wait to see the adjustments they’ll have to make in that patriarchal conclave called the Governors’ Forum.”
